Meet Our Parent Mentors

Carrie

Carrie is a mentor for parents caring for a child with autism and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She also offers mentorship related to neurology and behavioral health and mental health care services.

When Henry was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder and ADHD at age four, I was in denial for a very long time. In my mind, he was not what autism looked like – yes, a challenging kiddo, but very typical in many other ways. We have evolved with many years of behavioral intervention and psychotherapy; Henry is now fully integrated into the regular classroom with support in and out of school. His passion in life is ice hockey. He plays competitively on a traveling hockey team with the Jr. Steelheads. We learned that the weighted feel of padding, structure of a team sport, and sensation of skating is where Henry could excel and does he ever!
