Contrast-Enhanced Mammography

What is contrast-enhanced mammography?

Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) combines 3D digital mammography with a contrasting dye administered intravenously.

The dye can show new or unusual blood flow patterns that develop when cancers grow.

CEM is also helpful when examining dense breast tissue, aiding in finding tumors that traditional mammography might miss.

Why would I need CEM?

CEM supplemental imaging includes benefits such as:

  • Greater improvement in cancer detection
  • Evaluations of suspicious findings after conventional mammograms
  • Determining the spread of cancer within the breast

CEM is also an alternative for women who:

  • Are ineligible for a breast MRI
  • Have dense breast tissue
