Our surgeons not only see emergent patients, but you can make an appointment for a consultation if you're experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort. You could be cared for by the acute care surgical team if you visit the St. Luke’s Boise emergency department and need surgery at that time or at a later date, but don’t already have a relationship with a general surgeon. Our surgeons also care for patients who are already in the hospital, if a question or surgical problem arises, or if a patient is transferred to St. Luke's Boise Medical Center with a complex surgical problem that cannot be treated in a smaller hospital.

As part of our coordinated approach to care, we’ll evaluate your condition before and after surgery, consulting with your primary care provider and with specialists as needed. Different members of the surgical team will see and care for you during your hospital stay. We maintain routine, regular communication to ensure your care is well coordinated. You may require an inpatient stay in the hospital, transfer to a skilled nursing care facility for recovery, or home care services once you return home. Our advanced practice providers will work with your primary care provider to coordinate your care following surgery.

Your primary care provider will be given a detailed record of your hospital stay. We are happy to provide your post-surgical care at our clinic, and invite you to call the clinic with any questions you might have after your discharge.
