St. Luke’s helps fund new ‘story trail’ in Nampa
A new walking trail opened in Nampa this month, blending physical activity and learning opportunities for kids and families.
The ‘story trail’ at Lakeview Park is a half-mile long and features various reading stations along the path. The City of Nampa held a ribbon cutting on Oct. 1 to celebrate the opening, which coincided with the inaugural 2C Kids Week.
“I am very excited to be officially launching this program for our community which encourages physical activity and reading,” Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling said. “In addition to physical activity, the story trail gives us an opportunity to send out positive messages of hope, resilience and gratitude for our community to enjoy in celebration of 2C Kids Week.”
The story trail was funded in part by St. Luke’s Health System. Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health also provided support through its Mayor’s Walking Challenge.
According to the City of Nampa, bilingual reading material will be changed regularly at the reading stations, providing reading opportunities for all ages. The Nampa Parks and Recreation Department and the Nampa Library will manage the project.
“The story trail is a great activity for the entire community (to) read notes of encouragement and enjoy walking in one of Nampa's beautiful parks,” Kling said.
St. Luke’s has assisted in many endeavors to get kids active, including the construction of 17 walking tracks around the state, with more to come thanks to FitOne contributions. Learn more about 2C Kids Succeed here.About The Author
