Never let it be said that the St. Luke’s team doesn’t plan – in this case, for all things autumn.
Which is why a pumpkin patch is sprouting up near St. Luke’s Magic Valley’s emergency department.
St. Luke’s Food and Nutrition Services and other staff members planted the St. Luke’s Magic Valley Victory Pumpkin Patch to show we can defeat the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic together.
“Growing things is really a great way to show how someone can survive through something,” said Mary Bird of St. Luke’s Food and Nutrition Services. “We came up with the great idea to plant pumpkins as something fun.
“We are hoping that we get lots of pumpkins.”
The team planted four pumpkin plants; each is expected to produce about 15 pumpkins.
“Our landscaping crew here at St. Luke’s donated some time and pumpkin plants to go ahead and help us to get this started,” Bird said. “We are going to take volunteers during the summer to make sure that things stay weeded and growing and watered.”
The team is grateful to all those who helped, from the idea to the reality of the patch, and is looking forward to turning the harvest into even more fun.
At the end of this, we are going to do a big carving contest for our employees here at St. Luke’s Magic Valley,” Bird said.
