National Hospital Art Event comes to St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute in Meridian

By Chereen Langrill, News and Community
August 5, 2016
Patients, hospital staff and community members were artists for a day when a free group art activity was offered on Aug. 1 at St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute in Meridian.

Offered on behalf of the Foundation for Hospital Art, PaintFest America is a national, 50-day event that features multiple murals with different designs and a paint-by-numbers approach that anyone can enjoy, regardless of artistic ability.

Patients, families, staff and community members stopped by to grab a brush throughout the morning. Visitors exploring their artistic talents included St. Luke’s MSTI administrator Mark Parkinson.

Participants painted 18 colorful panels, which will be added to a 50-state mural called “Stars of Hope” and assembled during the final unveiling on Aug. 23. After the official unveiling, the individual panels will be returned to the hospitals where they were originally created.
