Tobacco Treatment

Many people who have quit tobacco say it’s the hardest thing they’ve ever done. Most, however, will likely say it’s the most important thing they’ve ever done. Having a team to support and encourage you will improve your chances of quitting for good.

Program Details

Our tobacco treatment program is an intensive intervention that provides:

  •  One-on-one consultation and frequent follow-ups
  •  Trigger identification for your tobacco use, action plan development, establishment of a quit date, and techniques to help you avoid relapse
  •  Personalized medication plan based on your medical history
  •  Instruction on proper use of medications and follow-up for any adverse side effects.

Ask your doctor for a referral or call us at (208) 322-1680.

How Long Does the Program Last?

It depends on your individual needs, but most people have clinic visits over 3-6 months at the very least. We talk with you by phone 1, 3 ,6, 9, and 12 months after you actually quit to see how you’re doing, if you have any withdrawal symptoms, and if you need to adjust medications.

How Much Does the Program Cost?

Most insurers cover up to 3-5 visits at 100% per quit attempt, for up to 2 quit attempts per year. Out-of-pocket costs are expected to be a maximum of $25-$35 per visit. We strive to keep costs as low as possible, and offer follow-up phone calls free of charge.

Your Care Team

We work with the doctor who referred you and your primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP will be asked to prescribe the medications recommended to help you quit using tobacco.

Your care team includes nurses trained in tobacco dependence treatment and motivational interviewing, and a Mayo Clinic-certified tobacco treatment specialist. They’re supported by a physician and nurse practitioner. The program includes elements from both the Mayo Clinic and the American College of Chest Physicians.
