Clayton Sontheimer, MD specializes in treating children and teenagers with rheumatologic diseases, including arthritis, lupus, periodic fever syndromes, macrophage activation syndrome, dermatomyositis, and Still's disease.
Prior to joining St. Luke's, he was a faculty member at Seattle Children's Hospital and was involved in both medical education and clinical care.
Dr. Sontheimer is the first board certified pediatric rheumatologist to practice in Idaho.

Dr Sontheimer is the best! Rheumatology care is complex involving nebulous symptoms, complex labs, and chronic pain. It can be a lot for adult care but Dr Sontheimer makes my child's appointments fun, gives them choices about their care, and encourages them to take control and have agency in their care. This is supremely rare in adult care and unheard of in pediatrics. We love him and are so very very grateful for him.

Dr. Sonthiemer is not only brilliant, he is kind and my child feels heard, and Dr. S always addresses him in a way that he understands, and he always asks him if he has been up to anything new. We are so thankful for him.

My daughter became upset and agitated but the doctor made a huge effort to help her understand things. She later told me that he's the 1st doctor who has answers to what she feels.
