St. Luke's Clinic – Orthopedics: Boise, Americana Blvd. 

Our physicians are all board certified or board eligible in general orthopedics, and have sub-specialty training and interests in areas such as arthroscopic, computer-assisted, and minimally invasive surgery; total joint replacement; reconstructive hip and knee surgery; and microsurgery. Our team also manages a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including scoliosis, fractures, trauma, and bone or muscle tumors.

Our team also includes pediatric specialists to support your child’s bone, muscle, and joint health. We provide care for a wide range of conditions including fractures, trauma, scoliosis, congenital and acquired deformities, and neuromuscular and other hereditary, genetic, and developmental disorders. We also offer expertise in sports medicine, abnormal gait or walking abnormalities, bone tumors, and rheumatologic conditions like arthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis. No matter the cause, we’ll work with your child to reduce pain and optimize function and mobility.

    Biography

    Krysten Bell, MD specializes in pediatric orthopedic surgical care, including trauma, complex hip deformities in children and young adults, scoliosis and other spine deformities, pediatric foot and ankle surgery, and pediatric sports injuries. She also works with neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy.

    Krysten is a candidate active member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Her research interests include outcomes following periacetabular osteotomy for residual hip dysplasia and surgical treatment of severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis.

    Biography

    Clinton Clark, DPM earned his bachelor's degree from Boise State University. He received additional clinical training with the Diabetic Limb Salvage Program through the Joslin Clinic and Harvard Medical College. He served as associate clinical professor of surgery at the John A. Burns College of Medicine and as director and clinic instructor with HealthSouth Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship in Honolulu.

    Biography

    Tobias (Tobi) Gopon, MD, ABFP, CAQSM is fellowship trained in sports medicine, specializing in non-operative sports medicine for pediatric and adult injuries. His areas of focus include shoulder, hip, and knee injuries; concussion and fracture management; and lumbar spine pain. Dr. Gopon will be serving as team physician for the FC Nova youth soccer club, Boise Hawks, Idaho Stampede, and Idaho Steelheads. He will also support both the U.S. national ski and soccer teams. 

    During his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Utah, he cared for members of the U.S. national ski and speed skating teams, University of Utah student athletes, and winter sport athletes as a physician at Park City Ski Clinic.

    Dr. Gopon earned his bachelor's degree at St. Olaf College. He played collegiate and semi-professional soccer, and continues to play in Boise’s adult league. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, fly fishing, skiing, and mountain biking.

    Jeffrey "Jake" Griggs, PA-C provides care for all orthopedic issues with a focus on knee and hip osteoarthritis. He earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Boise State University. He earned his master's degree in higher and postsecondary education from Arizona State University while working as an athletic trainer for the Sun Devils' wrestling and football teams. He completed his physician assistant training at the University of Utah and practiced in orthopedics prior to joining St. Luke's.

    Biography

    Alejandro A. Homaechevarria MD, ABFP, CAQSM is fellowship trained in sports medicine and specializes in pediatric and adult sports injuries, back pain, shoulder and knee injuries, concussion management, and fracture management. He serves as a team physician for US Soccer Federation and US Ski Teams. Dr. Homaechevarria is the medical advisor for Bogus Basin Ski Resort and helped develop the Ski Injury protocol and mobile app designed to help ski resorts reduce the number of ski and snowboard related injuries on their terrain. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital and University of Utah, where he cared for members of the US Ski and Speed Skating teams and university athletes, and served as a physician at the Park City Resort Ski Clinic.

    Benjamin Kerns, PA-C is a certified athletic trainer. He earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training and sports medicine from Eastern Washington University and his master's degree in physician assistant studies from Idaho State University.

    Biography

    Ronald M. Kristensen, MD specializes in hip and knee replacements as well as problems involving the lower extremities. Dr. Kristensen is a founder of the St. Luke's Joint Center, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. After completing his lower extremity fellowship in Seattle, he moved to Boise, where he advanced lower extremity reconstruction, having performed over 1,000 computer-assisted hip and knee replacement surgeries. He has worked with the early development of custom cutting jigs and has implemented advanced multimodal pain management techniques to minimize postoperative discomfort.

    Dr. Kristensen serves on multiple committees for St Luke’s. He has been active in teaching and research with numerous publications, as well as lectures regarding the management of arthritic problems. In 2005, Dr. Kristensen was elected as one of the Best Doctors in America by his peers and currently holds this nomination. It is Dr. Kristensen’s goal to return his patients to pain-free daily activities as well as recreational activities including golfing, biking, and skiing.

    Biography

    Christopher T. Lawler, MD specializes in non-operative musculoskeletal injuries and fractures in adults and children. He also treats athletes with non-orthopedic conditions such as concussions, soft tissue injuries, skin disorders, and other sports-related conditions, and has a particular interest in sports injuries related to football, ice hockey, and gymnastics. Dr. Lawler serves as team physician for the Idaho Steelheads, Idaho Stampede, Northwest Nazarene University, and Kuna High School. He previously served as team physician for the Boise Burn. He completed his internship at Baystate Medical Center. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at Michigan State University, where he volunteered with the university athletic sports medicine program and worked with the ice hockey and gymnastics teams. He performed his sports medicine fellowship in Boise, where he worked with Boise State athletic teams.

    Biography

    Jeffry P. Menzner, MD is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He has a keen interest in improving the entire experience of patients undergoing joint replacement, from pre-operative preparation to post-operative recovery and rehabilitation, and credits the development of a hospital-based joint replacement center for greatly improving the safety, comfort, and recovery of his hip and knee replacement patients. Dr. Menzner also completed a fellowship in orthopedic oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital in association with Harvard Medical School. He works closely with sarcoma patients.

    Dr. Menzner served on active duty as a U.S. Air Force orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Menzner has served on area hospital committees on patient safety, orthopedic supervisory, physician advisory, and credentialing. He is a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and is a founder of the St. Luke's Joint Center.

    Biography

    Gary Millward, MD specializes in diabetes education and foot care as well as reconstructive foot surgery. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. He completed his two-year residency in foot and ankle surgery through Western Medical Centers in Orange County, CA. Dr. Millward runs the foot clinic at the VA Medical Center in Boise, teaches at the Boise State School of Nursing, and speaks regularly on a variety of foot-related topics for the Southwest District Health Department.

    Biography

    Kurt J. Nilsson, MD is fellowship-trained in sports medicine and specializes in non-operative sports medicine for children and adults, including management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and concussions. He is a team physician for the College of Idaho, the US Ski Team, and US Soccer Federation; and has served as a concussion consultant for USA Cycling. He has also served as the medical director of the St. Luke’s Concussion Clinic since it inception in 2011 and directs St. Luke’s Sports Medicine education series.

    Dr. Nilsson earned his bachelor's degree at California Lutheran University and his master's degree in exercise science from Boise State University.

    Sean Page, PA earned his bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science from Idaho State University and his master's degree in physician assistant studies from Midwestern University. Since returning to Idaho, he has been working in family practice and urgent care.

    Larry "Buzz" Showalter, MD is trained in all facets of children's orthopedic care including trauma, complex upper and lower extremity deformity, and neuromuscular and other developmental disorders. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

    Biography

    Darby Webb, MD is fellowship trained in both sports medicine and trauma, and currently serves as team physician for the Idaho Steelheads, Idaho Stampede, and PRCA rodeos. Her special interests include sports medicine; arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder; hip and knee replacement; and complex orthopedic trauma care.

    Dr. Webb is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Orthopedic Trauma Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Webb also trained in trauma management at the Ilizarov Center in Kurgan, Russia.
