    Biography

Dr. Florence is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and board-certified orthopedic sports medicine specialist. He provides orthopedic care of the musculoskeletal systems to improve mobility and alleviate pain in patients through conservative treatment including injections, prescribing physical therapy and fracture care and with surgery, including arthroscopy, fractures and total joint replacement of hips, knees and shoulders.

As an orthopedic sports medicine specialist, Dr. Florence helps athletes and physically active individuals enhance their performance through treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries. He believes the most important thing he can do for his patients is help them get back to doing the activities that bring them health and happiness, and to make their journey through recovery as comfortable as possible.

Prior to joining St. Luke's, Dr. Florence served as an orthopedic surgeon and orthopedic sports medicine specialist for 13 years at Estes Park Health in Colorado. In 2010 he created the hospital’s first comprehensive orthopedic surgery program. He served in several physician leadership roles, including chief of medical staff. He was active with the local high school sports teams and taught athlete injury prevention courses in the community.

During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Florence worked for team physicians of several professional and collegiate sports teams: New York Yankees, New York Jets, the Professional Golf Association, U.S. Olympic Ski and Snowboard teams, NBA referees and others.

Dr. Florence and his wife are both originally from Idaho. He grew up in Middleton and frequently skied and vacationed in McCall as a youth. They are looking forward to raising their children in McCall and being closer to their families in southwest Idaho.

In his free time, he enjoys downhill and back country skiing, mountain biking, basketball, hunting, fishing, hiking and carpentry. He also spends time volunteering at his church and other community organizations.

  • General Orthopedics

    Biography

Greg Irvine, MD retired from surgery and emergency care on April 1, 2022. He continues to see patients in the clinic and conducts orthopedic evaluations and consults.

Originally from northern Michigan, Dr. Irvine was part of the Inteflex Combined Pre-medical/Medical School Program's first class at the University of Michigan, where he also completed his general surgery residency. He joined the orthopedic surgery faculty as an assistant professor of surgery. He also served as the attending surgeon at Wayne County General Hospital and the co-director of sports medicine at University Hospital.

He was soon recruited to join a busy trauma and joint replacement practice at the Portland Orthopedic Clinic. He also led the level I orthopedic trauma service at Emanuel Hospital. During this time, he served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, holding that position for more than twenty years.

While on vacation in McCall, looking at possible retirement destinations, he thought McCall could use an orthopedic surgeon, considering the ample year-round recreation opportunities nearby.

In 2011, Dr. Irvine began practicing at St. Luke’s McCall. Through his leadership and collaboration with local leadership, a comprehensive orthopedic surgical program was developed, most notably a robust total joint replacement program that serves patients throughout the area.
