At St. Luke’s Clinic – Idaho Cardiology Associates, our team has over 150 years of combined experience in the treatment of heart disease and offers you comprehensive cardiovascular care. Clinic services include electrophysiology and arrhythmia exams and consultations, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, stress tests, and nuclear cardiology.

We specialize in a wide range of procedures and interventions, including ablation, cardioversion, coronary angioplasty/stent, defibrillator implantation, heart catheterization, and pacemaker implantation. We also operate special clinics to focus on arrhythmias, pacemakers and defibrillators, anticoagulation, congestive heart failure, tobacco treatment, and lipid management.

  • General Cardiology

    Biography

    Clint Allred, MD, FACC is a general cardiologist with additional board certification in clinical lipidology. In addition to providing general cardiovascular care, Dr. Allred offers preventive care for atherosclerotic cardiovascular processes with particular interest in management of inherited dyslipidemias. Through shared decision making with his patients, he emphasizes the combination of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies to mitigate risk and achieve both primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular, peripheral vascular and cerebrovascular atherosclerotic events. He also works with patients challenged by intolerance to traditional lipid lowering therapies.

    After completing his fellowship training, Dr. Allred joined the faculty at the University of Utah where he served as director of the Cardiovascular Medicine Lipid Clinic until he joined St. Luke’s Idaho Cardiology Associates.

    Biography

    Troy J. Badger, MD specializes in interventional cardiology and peripheral arterial and venous disease. Dr. Badger completed his fellowship at the University of Utah in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
  • General Cardiology

    Biography

    Murali N. Bathina MD, FACC is fellowship-trained in cardiology, with special board certifications in advanced heart failure, nuclear cardiology and boarded in echocardiography. He currently serves as the system medical director for all of St. Luke’s heart and vascular services. 

    Dr. Bathina's clinical practice focuses on diagnosis and treatment of most heart conditions. His areas of special focus include heart failure, cardiac imaging and cardio-oncology. He is also the founder of the cardio-oncology service at St Luke’s that specializes in protecting the heart during and after cancer treatment.

    Prior to his medical education, Dr. Bathina earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago.

  • Biography

    Chelsea Dedlow, NP has extensive experience caring for general cardiology patients in outpatient, inpatient and acute care settings. She also supports the heart health of cancer patients through cardio-oncology care. She is committed to earning trust through honesty and compassion, and appreciates the challenge of identifying contributors to each patient's health concerns, as well as the opportunity to build relationships with patients and their families throughout their care journeys. 

    Chelsea started her career as a nurse in telemetry and critical care, and then expanded her experience with practice in community health, urgent care, and women’s health clinics. Prior to joining St. Luke's, she worked with the hospitalists at Saint Alphonsus. 

    Chelsea earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Intercollegiate College of Nursing through Eastern Washington University and a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner studies from Gonzaga University. 

    Originally from Boise, Chelsea has three kids and loves travelling, hiking, running, and spending time with her family and dogs. She loves to be outside and has great memories from a month spent in Peru during her college days.

  • Biography

    Ryan Harvey, MSN, AGACNP-BC is a board certified nurse practitioner. He has professional interests in critical care and cardiology. He has practiced in a variety of settings as a nurse, including cardiac catheterization lab, intensive care, thoracic intensive care, and hospice case manager.

    Ryan earned his bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Utah and his master's degree in nursing from Boise State University.

  • Biography

    Peter Larson, FNP specializes in general cardiology. He also has experience in family medicine and critical care, where he cared for patients in the ICU and as a flight nurse and paramedic for Air St Luke’s.

    Peter started his health care career as a paramedic before earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from Boise State University and a master's degree, family nurse practitioner, from Gonzaga University.

    Originally from South Dakota, Peter is married and enjoys traveling, scuba diving, biking, and camping in his time away from work.

    Kristin M. Linzmeyer, MD, FACC earned her bachelor's degree from Carroll College and performed her internal medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University. She completed her internal medicine internship at the University of Utah and her cardiology fellowship at the University of New Mexico.

    Biography

    Shannon McConnaughey, MD is a general cardiologist with a clinical focus on valvular heart disease and structural interventional imaging. She also partners with the adult congenital heart disease clinic to provide care for adults who were born with cardiac abnormalities. Dr. McConnaughey serves as the director for non-invasive cardiac imaging.

    Prior to moving to Boise, Dr. McConnaughey lived in Seattle where she completed her residency, chief residency, and fellowship at the University of Washington. She earned her undergraduate degrees in biology, mathematics, and classical studies from Vanderbilt University. She enjoys exploring the mountains with her family in all seasons, but particularly on a snowboard.

    Biography

    Spencer Miller, MD cares for patients with a wide range of acquired heart diseases. His areas of interest include chest pain, valvular heart disease, cardiac imaging, and heart failure. He also performs various cardiac procedures including right and left heart catheterizations, coronary angiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms with direct-current cardioversions.

    Dr. Miller enjoys working with his patients to identify and diagnose complex cardiac concerns. He prioritizes helping patients understand their diseases and the reasoning behind specific treatment plans and procedures. He is proud to have been honored by colleagues and faculty during both his residency and fellowship for excellence in teaching and clinical care. 

    In his free time, Dr. Miller loves to mountain bike, ski, and hike all over the Mountain West with his wife and their four children. They enjoy serving in their local church and volunteering for youth development programs.

    Brad Mulkey, PA-C provides cardiac care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He also provides care to adult congenital heart disease patients who have had lifelong cardiac complications.

    Brad earned his bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy from Boise State University and his master's degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Utah School of Medicine.

    Biography

    Brian P. Nolan, DO, FACC specializes in nuclear cardiology, heart failure, and associated cath lab procedures to produce cardiac imaging and identify areas for intervention. He also performs stress tests and collaborates with colleagues to support patients before and after a heart transplant. He greatly appreciates St. Luke's team-based approach to patient care, which contributes to an exceptional care environment and better patient outcomes.

    Dr. Nolan's goals are to alleviate suffering, prolong life and help people feel better. He's passionate about sharing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with his patients and encourages plant-based, whole-food nutrition as well as regular physical activity.
     
    Currently serving as medical director for St. Luke's nuclear cardiology, Dr. Nolan is also the medical director of St. Luke's cardiology research, and welcomes discussion regarding available research programs and protocols. He leads a successful research team, focusing on clinical trials in heart failure, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, and cardiac arrhythmias. He has previously served as heart and vascular department chair and as a member of the department's operational council.
     
    Dr. Nolan began his career in physical therapy. His appreciation of anatomy and physiology inspired him to expand his education and expertise through medical school. Today, he is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.
     
    Outside of work, Dr. Nolan is a dedicated exercise enthusiast and endurance athlete, competing in renowned events such as the Boston Marathon and Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. He and his wife have two sons.

  • Pediatric Cardiology

    Biography

    Elizabeth “Tess” Vickers Saarel, MD, FAAP, FACC, FHRS is a pediatric cardiologist and electrophysiologist with special expertise in heart rhythm disorders, sports cardiology, and syncope. She treats patients of all ages, including newborns, children, teens, adults, and pregnant women. Her goal is to improve the quality and longevity of life for adults and children born with heart problems.

    Prior to joining St. Luke’s, Dr. Saarel practiced cardiology at the University of Michigan, the University of Utah, Primary Children’s Medical Center, and the Cleveland Clinic. She is a professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at CWRU. Her academic research is in the prevention of sudden cardiac death in youth, the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders in children and adults with congenital heart disease, sports cardiology, and quality improvement.

    Dr. Saarel now serves on the executive committees for the Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society, the Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery for the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Cardiac Safety Research Consortium Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young Task Force, and the ACC National Cardiac Data IMPACT Registry. She also holds leadership positions at the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and the Pediatric Heart Network. Past activities have included leadership in the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Committee for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety.
