Description

Successful parenting is understanding the use and misuse of power, knowing how to set boundaries, and having consequences that work. Mother, grandmother, author, and columnist Sandy McDaniel focuses on solving parenting problems and brings lots of tips and wisdom to share.This class focuses on teaching your child how to handle peer pressure, how to say no when he or she wants to say no, how to not be hurt by unkindness, and the importance of making good choices. Tips for teaching your children these character traits are enhanced by parenting strategies. The cost is $10 per family.

Special Instructions

This class is conducted in St. Luke's South Tower Anderson Center (5th floor) which is directly east of (and attached to) the South Tower parking garage where free parking is available. The South Tower ground-level pedestrian entrance is just east of the cul-de-sac at the corner of W. Bannock Street and N. First Street. Motorists should enter the South Tower parking garage at 101 W. Bannock Street and park on level 4 (top) in spaces designated for patients. Enter the South Tower building through entrance 4A, proceed through the double doors, and take stairs or elevator to the 5th floor Anderson Center.

    This is a puberty class for kids ages 9-12 and their parents. Puberty is a time of change for kids - and parents! This course (separate for boys and girls) provides a comprehensive overview of the bodily changes and emotional ups and downs that accompany early adolescence. Topics include: anatomy and physiology of both boys and girls; relationships with parents and friends; conception, pregnancy and birth; and body image and self-esteem. Experts in adolescent health address your child's concerns, including factual responses to questions about the opposite sex. Pre-teens must be accompanied by a parent; mom, dad or both are welcome to attend. Please feel free to bring a snack and beverage to class. If attending an all day Saturday class, please bring a sack lunch to class.
