Description

Using a combination of techniques, this class will help you and your partner experience childbirth without pain medication. Topics include creating an ideal setting in the hospital environment, activities and positions that allow free and comfortable movement through labor, comfort measures such as massage and acupressure techniques, and relaxation methods such as visualization and guided imagery.

Registration is required. Please note that if there are less than 5 people enrolled in the class, the class may be cancelled. You will be notified before the class if this occurs.

Special Instructions

Dress comfortably. Please bring your spouse, partner, or other support person. The information provided in our Birth and Parenting classes is designed for general educational purposes only. Bring two full sized bed pillows.

This class is conducted in the St. Luke's Children's Community Education/Support Groups building at 211 W. Main Street. The classroom/building IS NOT VISIBLE FROM MAIN STREET; it is behind the St. Luke's Children's Administration/Programs at 209 W. Main (which is right next door to the Department of Labor Job building at 3rd and Main St., downtown Boise). Access to the parking lot and classroom building is from a driveway off Main Street between the Department of Labor building and the 209 W. Main St. Luke's Children's Admin building.

    <p>This class will help you and your support companion prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally for your labor, birth, and postpartum experience. We&rsquo;ll demonstrate and practice a variety of coaching, breathing, and relaxation techniques. We&rsquo;ll also cover the birth process, pain management during labor, decision making, and the transition to parenthood.</p><p>We offer either an all-day class on select Saturdays or a four-part series one night a week. Both cover the same material, so choose whichever one that best fits your schedule.</p>

    During this one night class, you’ll learn all of the basics and “how tos” of caring for your newborn. We’ll cover comforting, diapering, bathing, feeding, cord care, and sleeping. We’ll also discuss immunizations, circumcision for boys, jaundice, and car seats. A guest physician will drop by for a portion of the class to answer any of your baby care questions.
