St. Luke's Magic Valley recently awarded its spring 2014 Community Health Improvement Fund grant funding. A recognition luncheon was held for the recipients at St. Luke's Magic Valley on June 20.
Fifteen recipients were chosen this spring – one of the non-profit organizations chosen was the Jerome Recreation District. They are using their funds to purchase supplies for their “Kids Summer Fitness Camp.”
A total of 130 children, ages 9-12 participates in an all-day, six week program designed to engage kids in fun fitness activities and promote healthy eating habits. Activities include swimming, tag baseball, Zumba, kickboxing, dance, dodgeball, switch game, tumbling and nutrition classes!
Since 2006, St. Luke's has distributed $1.8 million in community grants to non-profit organizations throughout the Magic Valley. In 2014, $252,000 was distributed to 35 organizations. The CHI fund is an important component in providing metrics of St. Luke’s Magic Valley/Jerome’s Community Health Needs Assessment goals, which includes a focus on teen weight management, nutrition and exercise.
