St. Luke’s Boise Meridian Medical Center is back in full operation following an incident this morning.
Around 6:30 a.m., smoke in a communication closet in the basement of Meridian Medical Center triggered a fire alarm. The Meridian Fire department responded to the alarm. There was no fire, but the smoke did necessitate the temporary evacuation of employees in the basement area including food service. Some surgeries were also postponed or rescheduled, but no patients were evacuated.
The cause of the smoke hasn’t yet been fully determined, but it’s believed to have originated from a component called an uninterruptable power supply. That component has been taken offline and technicians are currently examining it.
As of 10 a.m., the smoke had been cleared from the building and the fire department gave the all clear for St. Luke’s to resume normal operations. St. Luke’s would like to thank the expert response from our building services staff, hospital staff and the Meridian Fire Department.

How do you define health? Physical? Mental? Social? Health goes beyond medical care. It's how we take care of ourselves, how we interact with our communities, how we take care of each other.
Let St. Luke's support your health, however you define it.
