St. Luke's Health System set to open new Central Laundry and Reference Laboratory

Nearly $18 million project will consolidate services and increase efficiencies-

What: St. Luke’s Health System is nearing completion of a more than year long project to open a new central laundry facility and new reference laboratory. The $17.8 million investment rehabilitated two former Micron Technology buildings into one of the region’s most advanced laboratories, and the region’s largest and most environmentally-friendly laundry facility.  Both facilities will open in March.

When: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, St. Luke’s Central Laundry, 3000 S. Denver Way, Boise

Who: St. Luke’s executives will be available to talk about the significance of the new lab and laundry. The event will start with a brief introduction followed by an opportunity for questions. Tours of both the lab and laundry facilities will be provided. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Local and state officials, St. Luke’s board members and business leaders have been invited to attend.

Visuals: See photos of the facilities

Why: The new laboratory will save St. Luke’s more than $15 million over the next three years, while providing testing services to St. Luke’s outpatient and physician offices throughout the health system. The lab will also position St. Luke’s to provide future molecular testing. The new St. Luke’s central laundry will reduce electricity and water costs by more than 44 percent resulting in $362,000 in annual savings while more than doubling the capacity of the existing laundry. The laundry will reduce water consumption by nearly 88 percent from 18.3 million gallons a year at the existing laundry to just 2.2 million gallons a year at the new laundry. The opening of the lab and laundry will serve as an important foundation for the more than $1 billion in expansions at St. Luke’s Boise and Meridian campuses expected over the next decade.

Directions: If coming from Boise, take Broadway Avenue south toward I-84. Take the Federal Way exit, and turn left at the light. Go past the carpet store and turn left on W. Victory, and then take the first left to Denver Way. If arriving via I-84, take Broadway Avenue to Federal Way. Turn left and go past the carpet store. Take the first left on W.
