St. Luke's Boise Medical Center Fire Update

By Ken Dey, News and Community
February 4, 2011

Boise, IDAHO - St. Luke's Boise Medical Center remains open and operational after an early morning fire.

At 2:38 a.m., a small fire was discovered in an utility closet on the 8th floor of the Boise Medical Center that is used to store soiled linen and trash.  The fire was contained to that area and the sprinkler system in the area functioned as expected. A facilities mechanic used a fire extinguisher to completely extinguish the fire.  Boise Fire Department responded.  The source of the fire is still under investigation.

As a precaution we did evacuate patients from the 8th floor to other available areas of the hospital. There were no injuries as a result of the incident, however there was minor water damage to the Mother Baby Care Unit.  The 8th floor remains closed while the fire department completes its investigation and housekeeping and maintenance removes the  smoke odor and cleans up the water damage.

Further updates will be provided when available.
