St. Luke's Children's Hospital Donation Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in donating to St. Luke's Children's Hospital. Our patients, ranging in age from newborn to 17 years, rely on the generous donations of people like you to make their hospital stay more comfortable.

Our Child Life staff takes great care in making sure your gifts are put to their best use. Your donation may go to a child as a way to welcome him or her to the hospital, as a prize for getting through a procedure, as a birthday or Christmas gift, or as a gift during one of our Child Life events. Your donation may also be used in one of our playrooms or with individual patients at the bedside.

Hospitalized children have special health needs, so we must be extra careful with the types of gifts we can accept. For example, dust, smells (such as smoke and perfume), and animal hair can be harmful to kids who are already sick. We ask that you please consider the following guidelines when choosing your items:

We can take:

  • Recently purchased, clean, unused stuffed animals
  • New, clean, unused handmade items such as blankets, tote bags, and pillow cases (please make sure homemade items are free of pins)
  • New books, toys, games, or electronics (iPads, Nintendo DS, etc.)

We cannot take:

  • Used or old stuffed animals (due to infection prevention)
  • Used books, toys, games, or electronics (due to infection prevention)
  • Food items (due to dietary restrictions)
  • Latex balloons (due to latex allergies and choking hazards)
  • Anything with political, violent, or religious themes
  • Get-well cards made for our patients
  • Gift wrapped donations

We sometimes receive requests from individuals to come and hand out gifts directly to our patients. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate these requests, as it’s important for us to protect our patients’ privacy, prevent the spread of infection, and maintain a calm and healing environment. To further help us with this, we strongly encourage you to refrain from bringing young children, to make sure you are free of illness, and to schedule a time for your donation drop-off.

We can generally accommodate donation drop-offs for the Children's Hospital from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. To schedule a donation drop-off, please call the Children's Hospital Child Life office at (208) 381-4758.
