Developing the Plan

As part of the Master Plan process, our Design Team identified possible expansion sites adjacent to St. Luke’s existing Boise hospital. The scenarios were then evaluated based on a set of health care planning criteria aligning with St. Luke’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and our Triple Aim: better care for individuals, better health for populations, and lower costs. The criteria included:

  • Internal circulation connectivity
  • Minimize disruption to current operations
  • Visibility/patient accessibility and convenience
  • Sufficient future capacity
  • Parking near entrances
  • Reduce/eliminate pedestrian-vehicular conflicts
  • Minimize negative impact on public infrastructure
  • Connects to most recent construction
  • Enable facility regeneration
  • Connection to central plant
  • Respects existing investments
  • Constructability

The scenarios were then vetted thoroughly through an iterative process with invested community members, both internal and external. The north option, which was the one presented for adoption to the City of Boise, is the only one that met all critical criteria.

Where We Are Now

  • ACHD has approved St. Luke's application to vacate–or close–one block of Jefferson Street. Learn more about the plans for Jefferson Street
  • Construction of phase 1, which included the new Idaho Elks Children's Pavilion, as well as a new central plant, shipping and receiving building, and parking garage, is now complete.
  • Phase 2 planning is underway.
