Autologous Stem Cell Transplant

Blood and Marrow Transplants, Close to Home

The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Hematologic Malignancies program at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute is the first and only one of its kind in Idaho. Our patients receive the region’s most advanced therapies, with the benefit of care close to home.

Studies show that patient outcomes in community transplant programs, such as St. Luke’s Cancer Institute - Center for Blood Cancer Therapy, are equal to those at academic medical centers. Moreover, our patients tell us that their quality of life is better because they’re able to stay close to home and family. We are committed to working with patients and physicians throughout every stage of the transplant process, and to returning patients home as soon as possible.

St. Luke’s to open new clinic space dedicated to providing innovative CAR T-cell therapy to patients with blood cancers

Procedure Types

St. Luke's Cancer Institute performs autologous transplants (using the patient’s own stem cells), syngeneic transplants (using cells from an identical twin), and allogeneic transplants (using cells from a matched donor). We also offer chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, in which a patient's own T cells are extracted and changed in a lab, the re-infused, enabling the T cells to attack the patient's cancer cells.

Like other recognized centers around the country, our team uses mobilized peripheral blood stem cells in the transplant process (PBSCT). Our facility is a National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) apheresis center.

Who is a candidate for BMT at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute?

When referred by their oncologist, we treat adult and pediatric patients.

  • Autologous transplants for adult patients: lymphomas and Hodgkin’s disease, multiple myeloma, and some testicular cancers
  • Autologous transplants for pediatric patients: neuroblastoma, lymphomas, Hodgkin’s disease, medulloblastoma, and germ cell tumors
  • Allogeneic transplants for adult patients: acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, myelofibrosis, certain lymphomas, and other bone marrow cancers
  • Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy: types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia
