To support the growing Treasure Valley and increasing patient needs, St. Luke’s is updating and modernizing the Boise Medical Center. This includes the construction of a new shipping and receiving building, designed to be the main delivery drop-off and pick-up point for the hospital.
The new shipping and receiving building is part of the St. Luke’s Master Plan. Following a multiyear planning and engagement process, the Master Plan was approved by the Boise City Council and adopted into the City of Boise’s Blueprint Boise comprehensive plan in 2015.
The building is 28,841 square-feet and sits two stories above grade and one story below. Community and neighborhood input helped drive the design and functionality of the facility. The orientation of the building allows large trucks to use an alley between 1st and 2nd streets, covering the loading docks from public view. The first floor of the shipping and receiving is used as a loading dock where supplies and other items will be loaded on trucks.
Hummel Architects designed the facility with a ‘pulse’ brick pattern, similar to the new central plant. The 2nd Street façade features raised planters with significant landscaping. Large expanses of glass will provide insight into the building’s staircases.
