Heart Disease in Women and Exercise for Prevention
Women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease, as it is the number one killer and leading cause of disability of women in the United States. The older a woman gets, the more likely she is to develop heart disease. In this evening presentation, Robert Duerr, MD, cardiologist, and Jeni Cook, physical therapist, will answer your questions and talk about steps to prevent heart disease in women by practicing healthy lifestyle habits.

The Basics of Sciatica
The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body, running down from the lower back through the buttock and leg. The term “sciatica” refers to pain that radiates along the path of this nerve. Join Kacey Fairfield, physical therapist, to learn about sciatica and how physical therapy can help you manage the symptoms.

AED Heartsaver CPR
Learn how to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in addition to the American Heart Association course on recognizing and responding to emergency situations involving infants, children, and adults. Good for beginners and for those who need to renew their Heartsaver Certification. Held the third Thursday of the month. Pre-registration required, call 727-8487. Please no walk-ins. Cost: $40

Breast Cancer Networking and Information Group
This group provides a connection with others who have been diagnosed with breast cancer for information and support. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month, and are facilitated by Gay Miremont, licensed clinical social worker. Diabetes Self-Management Education Program
Whether you are newly diagnosed, or have been living with diabetes, you can learn more about improving your quality of life and preventing diabetes-related complications. Our ongoing programs are led by a nurse and dietitian team committed to providing quality education and self-care skills to help patients manage their diabetes. There are separate, interactive courses specific to Type I, Type II, and gestational diabetes. Please call 727-8356 for more information.

Free Car Seat Safety Checks
Our certified child passenger safety technician can help you install your car seat before your baby is born, fit an older child to his or her seat, teach you proper installation, and check for recalls. Held the third Wednesday of every month. Call 727-8776 for more information.

YAK! is a healthy youth development initiative based on the Developmental Assets philosophy and supported by a coalition of partners. Be the Change Diversity Training
To address the changes in our community, St. Luke’s YAK! is offering a retreat to create dialogue regarding diversity issues. The retreat will feature Boise-based diversity dramatists Sam Byrd and Jan Salisbury, who dramatize issues related to diversity. Students will be trained to perform diversity skits at forums throughout the Wood River Valley. These skits will affirm the human dignity of all people and teach proactive behaviors to help create an accepting community. Pre-registration required.

New Moms' Group
Provides newborn and breastfeeding support and an opportunity to ask questions and learn the basics of caring for your baby. The presence of professionals, as well as other new parents, makes this group a comfortable and valuable experience. Bring your baby and your lunch, if you wish. Facilitated by Linda Parsons, RN, board certified lactation consultant, and Larsen Peterson, Childbirth Education coordinator.

"Class in a Basket" Home Study Course
Childbirth education materials for women who are either high risk or on bed rest and unable to ttend regular childbirth preparation classes.

Childbirth Refresher
Offered to parents who have previously taken a childbirth preparation course. Review of relaxation techniques, updated information, and sibling preparation. Includes a tour of the Labor and Delivery suites.

Breastfeeding Successfully
A two-hour prenatal breastfeeding education class designed to help start your breastfeeding experience with confidence and success.
