Operating Hours
St. Luke’s Laboratory Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for inpatient and Emergency Room requests.

Outpatients are received and processed through Registration at the Boise and Meridian Hospital Campuses between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Saturdays.  The Magic Valley Campus receives outpatients from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday. Wood River Hospital receives outpatients from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Outpatient specimens may be dropped off at all Laboratory locations.

Physician Orders/Requisitions
St. Luke’s is required by Federal and State law to maintain a written copy of the physician orders on file for three years.

Verbal orders may be placed by calling:

All requisitions must include the following information:

  • Patient’s name
  • Patient’s date of birth
  • Patient’s address
  • Insurance coverage
  • Ordering physician
  • Diagnosis code
  • Testing requested
  • Patient history when required for testing
  • Consulting physician/facility
  • Collection site/specimen collection type (L eye, R finger, cervix, etc.)
  • Physician Signature

St. Luke’s Laboratory has a Clinical Pathology Outpatient Request requisition available for use.  Customized requisitions are also acceptable.

Result Reporting
St. Luke’s Laboratory Services offers several different ways to receive and view results.  Results are available by fax or mail.  Boise, Meridian, Fruitland and Woodriver results are available for viewing on the internet via Quickchart and Dashboard.  Magic Valley results are available in Meditech PCI.  St. Luke’s Laboratory may be contacted directly for results at 208-381-4550 (Boise and Meridian), 208-727-8671 (Wood River) and 208-737-2021 (Magic Valley).

Transportation of Clinical Specimens
All specimens must be labeled appropriately and placed in a ziploc bio-hazard bag to prevent risk of leaking or external contamination.  Be sure that specimens are collected in leak-proof containers and the lids are securely tightened.  The requisition must be attached to or placed in a separate pouch of the transport bag.  Specimens with needles are not acceptable.

St. Luke’s Laboratory offers assistance with all aspects of Point of Care testing.  Standardizing practices throughout the health system reduces costs, simplifies training and improves quality.  Point of Care questions can be referred to the following:
