Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
What Is Chorionic
Villus Sampling
Chorionic villus (CVS) sampling is a procedure that includes
placement of a needle through the abdominal wall or placement
of a soft rubber catheter through the cervical canal. This
is used to sample pieces of the villi, or placenta, for genetic
testing. CVS has applications for early genetic testing between
the 9th and 14th weeks of pregnancy, and is generally performed
only in certain special circumstances.
