About Our Region

Boise
Boise is home to St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center, a 436 plus-bed hospital that has served the citizens of the Treasure Valley for more than a century. Known as the “City of Trees,” Idaho’s capital is both a cultural center and a playground for those who love the outdoors. A vibrant downtown area affords fine dining, theatre, music, and college and semiprofessional sports. Located within minutes of premiere ski slopes, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and soaring basalt cliffs, Boise’s location provides stunning mountain views and majestic high desert sunsets. Boise’s Greenbelt follows the beautiful Boise River corridor for more than 30 miles, providing the perfect venue for bicyclists, walkers, and bird watchers alike. The Boise foothills are home to miles of foothill and mountain trails as well as Bogus Basin Ski Resort.

Area growth over the past two decades has led to a strong local economy, and Boise’s leading employers include high-tech businesses, several Fortune 500 companies, state government, universities, corporate headquarters, and regional health centers. This rapid growth means booming new construction and lots of newcomers. But despite our growth, Boise maintains a friendly neighborhood feel.

Meridian
St. Luke’s Meridian Medical Center is a 152-bed hospital that opened its doors in 2001 to serve the growing communities west of our capital city. Home to Idaho’s busiest Emergency Department, St. Luke’s Meridian also features an accredited Chest Pain Center and Level II NICU.

Located just 10 miles from Boise, Meridian is a family-centered suburb that offers excellent schools, affordable housing, a growing business climate, and an active community life. A wide range of recreational opportunities is readily available close to home, and with direct interstate access, Meridian residents can easily take full advantage of the cultural offerings and professional sporting events offered in Boise and in other surrounding communities. Although it is situated conveniently near Boise, the city of Meridian treasures its unique history, its many positive assets, and its reputation as one of Idaho’s finest places to raise a family.

The Sun Valley-Ketchum Area
St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center opened in 2000 in the worldrenowned resort area of Sun Valley. Best known for outstanding skiing, that is just the tip of the iceberg for the exciting, beautiful, and charming Wood River Valley. Whether it is the annual move of thousands of sheep right down Main Street Ketchum in the fall, the Sun Valley Symphony outdoor summer concerts, or the exhilarating hiking trails and top rated golf courses, this community is full of delightful surprises.

The sparkling rivers, glacial lakes, and soaring mountains of the Wood River Valley reflect the special quality of life in this community, and so does the hospital. Inside the brick and glass walls of this 25-bed critical-access hospital, families and caregivers are united in a common goal to help and to heal. From emergency medicine to specialized orthopedics to primary care, St. Luke’s Wood River provides high quality health care services to a growing and diverse area.

Twin Falls
In May 2006, St. Luke’s and Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, a 144-bed county hospital founded in 1907, joined together to form the Idaho-based not-for-profit St. Luke’s Health System. As a result of the new partnership, the former county hospital transitioned to become St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center. In 2007, we broke ground on a new hospital, scheduled for completion in 2010.

Located 120 miles southeast of Boise, Twin Falls is a growing community with strong agricultural roots, a dedication to family life, and a richness of western traditions such as farming, hunting, and fishing. The Magic Valley was named for the lush areas created by early settlers’ vision of using the mighty Snake River to irrigate their fields. Today, the name reflects the fertile valleys as well as the city of Twin Falls and its surrounding communities.
