You are your best advocate beginning with breast health education, self-exams, and annual screenings to improve the chances of early detection. Breast cancer, when caught early, is very treatable and offers the best chance for long term survival. Knowing your risk, breast symptoms to look for, and when to start screening is key to early detection. At St. Luke's, we offer comprehensive breast screening and prevention services.
Screening Recommendations- The American College of Radiology and National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommends annual 3D screening mammography beginning at age 40 for average risk women.
- However, if you are at higher risk of developing breast cancer you may need to begin screening at a younger age. You should talk with your doctor or health care provider about when you should begin screening.
