|Dirk Carlson, MD emphasizes care of the whole patient and the doctor-patient relationship as one of the most important parts of medicine. He enjoys the continuity of patients whom he has delivered and now continues to follow—often as their primary care physician—and he continues to love the practice of obstetrics, regardless of what time of day the stork arrives. He understands that each baby is a miracle from God.
Originally from Alabama, Dr. Carlson earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, and completed his OB/GYN residency training through the Medical University of South Carolina. His served with the U.S. Air Force at Mountain Home Air Force Base, giving him his first exposure to southern Idaho. After completing his commitment to the Air Force, he and his family returned to the South for three years before returning to Boise in 1994.
In his spare time, Dr. Carlson enjoys reading and, depending on the time of year, he enjoys golf, gardening, and cross country skiing with his wife, and spending time with their three (mostly-grown) children.
|Dennis N. Carter, MD is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and has been in practice for 30 years—the last 26 in Boise. He is looking forward to transitioning his practice to gynecology and gynecologic surgery beginning October 2013, although he will continue to care for his current obstetric patients. He is pleased to welcome two new partners to St. Luke's OB/GYN Clinic as the clinic continues to expand and flourish.
Dr. Carter is a 1975 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a 1979 graduate of Tulane Medical School. He is married with four children and three grandchildren, and enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Debbie Grissom, MD joined St. Luke’s Clinic – Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2006. After almost 20 fulfilling years of delivering babies, she will be transitioning to a gynecology only practice beginning summer 2013.
Born and raised in San Diego, she graduated from the University of California, San Diego and earned her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School. She completed her OB/GYN residency at University of Texas, Southwestern, and returned to California to practice.
Dr. Grissom and her family moved to Boise about seven years ago, drawn by the area’s family-friendly environment and abundance of outdoor activities. She enjoys swimming, skiing, and walking the foothills, but spends most of her free time raising her son.
Katie Lliteras, MD has professional interests in both general and high-risk obstetrics, as well as hysteroscopy. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Seattle University and her medical degree from Creighton University. She completed her OB/GYN residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Maricopa County Medical Center in Phoenix.

|Brea Shrum, MD particularly enjoys obstetrics, both routine and high-risk, as well as minimally invasive surgery. She feels fortunate that the practice of obstetrics and gynecology allows her to develop relationships with patients that last many years, through many phases of life.
Dr. Shrum was born and raised in Boise. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Portland and her medical degree from Creighton University. After completing her OB/GYN residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, she moved back to Boise to be closer to family.
In her free time, Dr. Shrum enjoys reading, travel, and spending time with friends and family. She enjoys many outdoor activities and in the summer can often be found boating with her husband, stepson, and their two Labrador retrievers.
Holly Stevens, MD has professional interests in high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, and hysteroscopy.
She is originally from Wyoming, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming. She earned her medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Memorial Hospital.
In her free time, Dr. Stevens likes to camp, fly-fish, and ski, and she is looking forward to being back in the Northwest to enjoy these activities. One of her real passions is traveling, both locally and abroad.Joining us in summer 2013.
|Alan Swajkoski, MD has been a part of St. Luke’s Clinic – Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1991. Over his many years of caring for patients in Boise, he has developed a special practice interest in pelvic reconstructive surgery for prolapse and urinary incontinence. In 2001, he formed a multidisciplinary clinic specializing in urogynecology at Elks Rehab Hospital. He also has practice interests in hysteroscopic surgery and robotic-assisted laparoscopy.
Dr. Swajkoski has been involved in medical staff leadership at St. Luke's, and currently serves as Chief of Staff and a member of St. Luke’s Treasure Valley Board of Directors. He is also a clinical instructor for the University of Washington, Idaho State University, and Boise State University.
Dr. Swajkoski graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1983 and completed his OB/GYN residency in 1987. He served as a staff medical officer in the U.S. Navy, joining his current partners in Boise after completion of his military service.
When not practicing medicine, he enjoys time with his family, fly-fishing, hiking in the back country, and cycling. He appreciates the quality of life he enjoys in Idaho, and feels privileged to practice in Boise.
