Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital is the largest and most experienced PICU in Idaho, with the most advanced technology available and a team of highly skilled professionals dedicated to providing the highest quality care to critically ill children.

The PICU team consists of critical care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, Child Life specialists, and many others. They care for children of all ages—infant through adolescent—including children who have respiratory problems, such as pneumonia or asthma; are recovering from complex surgeries; are dependent on medical technology, such as ventilators; or are experiencing organ failure. The PICU also provides sedation services for children who require painful procedures.

The newly expanded PICU includes 12 rooms with a total of 13 beds, and six rooms designed to accommodate the special inpatient needs of children with cancer.
