Research at St. Luke's MSTI
St. Luke’s MSTI is extensively involved with children’s cancer research. Every advancement in curing childhood cancer has come through research, and it is the reason that the overall cure rate has improved from less than 10 percent in 1960 to the high rates we see today. More children than ever (40 percent) are participating in cutting-edge research through clinical trials, leading to higher survival rates, more effective treatments, and better care of side effects. Advances in radiation therapy have also made treatment much less toxic for our youngest patients.
As Idaho’s only member of the Children’s Oncology Group—the premier childhood cancer research organization in the world—St. Luke’s MSTI offers more than 60 clinical trials for our pediatric patients at any given time. Dozens of our patients participate in clinical trials, allowing us to offer the highest standard of care and leading-edge treatment for childhood cancers.
