Luke AwardThe Luke Award 2009

The 10th Annual Luke Award is proud to recognize Kathy Patrick and Children’s Archery Challenge for their dedication to the kids at St. Luke’s.

The Luke Award, presented by St. Luke’s Health Foundation Children's Advisory Board, recognizes individuals and businesses or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to fundraising efforts for the Children's Hospital.

Every year, hundreds of volunteers and businesses support five special events to raise funds and awareness for St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. Thousands of hours given by these individuals and organizations have helped ensure that the children of our region have the depth of pediatric medical services only available at a children’s hospital.

Luke is…the essence that resides in every child receiving care at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. From a teenage boy with cancer to a little girl injured on the playground, Luke is the strength children pull from to battle illness and mend wounds. Luke helps our critically ill young patients to smile, and gives them the courage to face life at its most difficult. And Luke is, above all, the compassionate spirit of everyone who has helped the young patients at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

Individual Recipient
She may stand under five feet tall, but Kathy Patrick is a giant.

Owner of Patrick’s Pub in Payette, Idaho, Kathy’s occupation is more community caretaker than barkeep. She is the first to lend a hand to someone in need and is known throughout Payette and beyond for her generosity in hosting charitable events.

In 1995, Kathy’s first granddaughter, Amethyst, was born at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. Amethyst spent the first month of her young life in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, requiring specialized care due
to birth defects. Inspired by her granddaughter’s care and treatment, Kathy made it her personal mission to give back to the Children’s Hospital.

The following year, Kathy turned the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Patrick’s Pub into
a fundraiser, featuring her famous homemade corned beef and cabbage. Fourteen St. Patrick’s
Days later, Kathy and the patrons of Patrick’s Pub have raised more than $25,000 for St. Luke’s
Children’s Hospital.

Children's Archery ChallengeChildren's Archery Challenge
Organization Recipient
Avid archers, the Pogue family started the Children’s Archery Challenge in 1999 to benefit local children with cancer. Their initial goals were modest – any amount, large or small, could make a difference for children and families facing life-threatening illness.

The two-day archery tournament is held in Eagle and draws more than 500 people every year. The weekend’s activities include a Kids Zone, Silent and
Live Auctions, and a delicious barbeque dinner.

A committee made up of family and friends is the driving force behind the tournament. They work year-round soliciting auction items, securing donations, and coordinating entertainment and games.

The Children’s Archery Challenge is the largest grassroots fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital,
raising more than $150,000 for the kids at St. Luke’s.
