Pediatric Neurosurgery

The families of children with neurological disorders such as brain tumors and spina bifida have enough to worry about without having to travel out of state for surgical care. To meet the growing need in this area, Idaho has its own dedicated pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Bruce Cherny.

Dr. Cherney performs neurosurgery on our young patients with the assistance of the pediatric surgery team at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital and the specialized equipment and technology available in our operating rooms. After surgery, Dr. Cherny relies on our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit staff and pediatric intensivists to help get his patients on the quickest and most comfortable road to recovery.

A longtime fascination with the nervous system is just part of the reason Dr. Cherny is devoted to his work. “Children are a joy to take care of,” he says. And although he loves caring for kids, he would prefer to never have to see children with preventable injuries. That’s why Dr. Cherny has this advice for parents: “Make sure your child always wears a bicycle helmet, and using a seat belt or car seat is a must.”
