Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics

Kids with learning and developmental problems need extra support, and that’s exactly what they get from Dr. Tim Leavell and Dr. Steven Felix. As the region’s only sub-specialists in developmental-behavioral pediatrics, Dr. Leavell and Dr. Felix are committed to helping children with disorders that range from attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to autism.

“The goal of developmental pediatrics,” says Dr. Leavell, “is to maximize current function and provide children with the best possible outcome.”

To determine the nature of a child’s delay or behavior, Dr. Leavell or Dr. Felix will perform a thorough assessment that includes biological as well as psychological testing, taking into consideration such things as genetics and events during pregnancy.

Many of their young patients are referred by caring and concerned teachers, counselors, and physicians from all across the state. With help from Dr. Leavell or Dr. Felix, these children perform better at school, have improved coping skills, and simply feel better about themselves and who they are.

Dr. Leavell also leads the Newborn Intensive Care Unit Follow-up Clinic at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital – because the earlier a developmental delay is diagnosed and treated, the more likely the child will experience a healthy, happy life.
