YAK! Programs

We offer the following programs during the school year:

Blaine County Teen Advisory Council (BCTAC) and BCTAC II

BCTAC and BCTAC II are the high school and middle school groups of YAK! We have over 70 active members, and all middle and high school students are invited to participate. Through BCTAC, students can get involved in any of our programs, as well as find out about volunteer, educational, and recreational opportunities. For more information, click here.

Y2Y Thursdays!

Each Thursday, middle and high school students can join us at the YMCA for an hour of fun and FREE activities. We will be doing different activities each week, including swimming, cardio workouts, yoga, and more.

BCTAC Rockheads Climbing Club

Middle school students learn the basics of rock climbing while enjoying a fun and safe activity with their friends. Each Tuesday, Rockheads club members travel to the YMCA after school. Climbing builds strength, confidence, and flexibility, and we will be offering several eight week sessions during the school year.

YAK! Afterschool Program

YAK! is partnering with Wood River Middle School, Blaine County Recreation District, and other community organizations to create new afterschool programs for middle school students. These programs will be held at locations such as WRMS, the Community Campus, YMCA, and more on Mondays through Thursdays during the school year. The program is free.

"Life Skills" Series for High School Students
In partnership with the WRHS Future Center and Silver Creek High School, YAK! is hosting professionals from a variety of fields to discuss their work and offer relevant information to students. Students learn about topics such as signing a lease for housing, the ins and outs of buying a car, career pathways, and more.

"Healthy Choices" Panel Series
Over the past year, YAK! has brought an ER Doctor, OB-GYN Nurse, Public Health nurse, and the director of the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition to talk to some of the Wood River High School freshman cohorts and the Silver Creek High School to answer their questions and provide them with accurate information about drug use and sexual health.

Job Shadowing / Job Mentoring
